Cognitive Science
Is a disciplinary field that brings together computer models from AI and experimental techniques from psychology to construct precise testable theories of the human mind.
By design cognitive science is based on experimental investigation.
Behaving Humanly
There are 3 ways of [see page 23, assessing] something behaves humanly.
- Introspection: Trying to catch our own thoughts as they go by.
- Observation: Of a persons behaviour in action.
- Brain Imaging: Analysing the exact fluctuation of brain waves.
Once we have a sufficiently precise theory of the mind it becomes possible to express the theory as a computer program. If the program's input-output behaviour matches corresponding human behaviour, that is evidence that some of the program's mechanisms could also be operating on humans.
