An experienced software engineer who has [see page 4, authority] over high level design decisions in the SDLC.

The architect acts as the bridge between the stakeholders and the team:

• Identifying the concerns of different stakeholders.
• Prioritising their concerns in order of importance.
• Determines their logical influence on the system.
• Investigates the physical context of the system.
• Determines the external constraints on its structure.
• From all this they decide the high-level architectural design.

Note: The architect ideally has to have people management skills.
