Phonetic Writing Systems
Writing systems which are based on how the words [see page 2, sound] phonetically (see [see page 7, here]).
Such systems are an example of [see page 5, visible speech].
Transcriptions from a language to a phonetic writing system are often surrounded in square brackets.
Syllabaries
Symbols represent a consonat plus a vowel (or a single vowel).
Eg. Cherokee, Japanese.
Abjads
Symbols mainly represent just consonants. Most of these are written right to left.
Eg. Aramaic, Hebrew.
Alphabets
Symbols represent consonants and vowels.
Eg. Cyrillic, Greek.
