Allows the [see page 18, trading] of quoted companies (includes UK based companies and foreign companies which have a quotation in the UK) shares and government and company bonds.
Operates as both primary and secondary market.
- primary - Enables new entrants to apply for a listing and if successfully float on the market. Allows companies to apply for more shares to increase revenue.
- secondary - Allows investors to easily buy and sell securities (eg. stocks, bonds, debts)
Maintains two markets:
- The main market
- The Alternative Investment Market (AIM). Riskier market for smaller/newer companies, companies are generally moved to the main market after 3 years.
