Filters are often [see page 1, described] as in idealised forms, however practical filters only approximate these forms.

In practice (both [see page 2, lowpass] and bandpass) filters we find:

• ripples (fluctuations in amplitude) where we expect continuous regions.
• slopes (curved declines) where we expect linear drops in gain.
