Gimbal Lock
Refers to the phenomenon where one degree of freedom is lost when two euler-angles are parallel to each other.
Each euler angle corresponds to one degree of freedom and contributes to an objects positioning for that angle. If two are parallel than the object loses the ability to rotate across the missing degree of freedom.
