Stationary Signals
Does the signals properties [see page 22, change] over time. Properties under consideration include:
- Amplitude
- Frequency
- Noise of constant mean and variance
Speech
Speech is a mixture of periodic, aperiodic and stochastic signals, making it non-stationary. However we [see page 24, generally] treat speech as quasi-stationary (AKA white-space stationary). Meaning it's stationary over a short time interval. This interval is generally clamped to between 10-30 msec.
I.E. Over a short period, the structure of a speech signal can be analysed.
Sounds
non-stationary sounds [see page 12, include]:
- diphthongs
- plosives
- affricates
- glides
