Paradigms over the years

Rationalism

everything can be rationally explained through observation (the world and our actions are deterministic).

Dualism

Something else (metaphysical) contributes to human intelligence.

Materialism

The brain does operate according to the laws of physics. Free will is simply the how available choices appear to the choosing entity.

Empiricism

Knowledge is based on (or derivced from) the senses.

Nothing is in the understanding which was not first in the senses. [pg. 26](09peter-artificial-intelligence).

Logical Positivism

Knowledge is logical theories connected to observational sentences that correspond to sensory inputs. This is a combination of Rationalism and Empiricism.

Actions from Thought

Aristotle initially promoted the idea of Goal Based Analysis.

His algorithm involves working backwords from what you want to happen to figure out how to get there and in doing so forumlate a solution. This approach was later used in the development of GPS.
